Nature Integrity Methodologyfor Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration

Cercarbono has opened for public consultation the Nature Integrity Methodology for Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration (Version 1.1), the methodology underpinning its Biodiversity Certification Programme (CBCP) for Biodiversity Conservation Projects (BCP) and Biodiversity Restoration Projects (BRP). It was developed together with Biodiversity Intelligence and sets out a standardised, science based framework, built around the Ecosystem Condition Score, for measuring ecosystem condition and change over time, aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Version 1.2 introduces governance and benefit-sharing provisions for Indigenous Peoples and local communities on collectively held or customary land, separate additionality criteria for conservation and restoration projects, and a clearer distinction between the two certification pathways, BCP and BRP.

Cercarbono invites communities, project developers, environmental authorities, academia and civil society to review the document and submit comments during the 30 calendar day consultation period, from 11 September to 11 October 2026, through Cercarbono’s website.
