Members of the Cercarbono team will be attending the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024. This event is critical as it marks a pivotal moment for global biodiversity action, bringing together governments, NGOs, and stakeholders to address the ongoing biodiversity crisis.
COP 16 is the first biodiversity COP since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) at CBD COP15 in 2022. The GBF sets forth an ambitious agenda with 23 targets aimed at achieving the global vision of a world living in harmony with nature by 2050. It emphasizes the need to mobilize financial resources for biodiversity, highlighting the role of innovative mechanisms such as biodiversity credits, which can drive investment in conservation efforts.
Cercarbono’s Biodiversity Certification Programme (CBCP) is designed to promote rapid action by taking a comprehensive approach that encompasses various types of interventions and levels of biodiversity. The CBCP focuses on incentivizing on-the-ground actions and swift implementation while allowing for the evolution of metrics and rules based on insights gained from ongoing projects. We anticipate announcing our first registered project within the CBCP and will share new developments in this critical field.
The following Cercarbono team members will be present at COP 16:

Our participation in COP 16 is crucial for advancing the dialogue on biodiversity finance and showcasing the role of certification in driving meaningful conservation outcomes. We look forward to engaging with stakeholders and sharing insights that contribute to the global biodiversity goals during this pivotal event.
