Cercarbono has once again been recognised as Best GHG Crediting Programme / Standards Setter at the Environmental Finance Voluntary Carbon Market Awards, marking the second year running that the standard has received this distinction.
Unlike many industry awards, the Environmental Finance Voluntary Carbon Market Awards are decided through a market survey, with the winners chosen directly by professionals working across the voluntary carbon market rather than by a panel of judges. Being named winner in this category means the recognition comes from project developers, buyers, brokers and other market participants who interact with certification standards on a daily basis and are best placed to judge their credibility and performance.
The award holds particular significance this time. Cercarbono is a standard based in the Global South, and holding this category for two consecutive years, decided by the people who actually work within the market, reflects the trust that has been placed in the standard as it has grown alongside the market itself.
Since its founding in Colombia in 2016, Cercarbono has developed from a regional certification body into a standard with international reach. This year brought a further milestone: ICVCM confirmed Cercarbono as CCP-Eligible at programme level, a recognition that speaks to the rigour and evolution of the standard’s methodologies and governance.
Taken together, the award and the ICVCM milestone illustrate a broader pattern. A market that engages directly with a standard, through the projects it certifies and the transactions built on top of it, is in the best position to assess whether that standard has earned its trust, and this year the market answered that question twice.
Cercarbono extends its thanks to the project developers, buyers and partners who took part in the survey and who have supported this growth, and to the team whose work made this recognition possible.
