2025 Highlights: Recognition, Innovation, and Growth

In 2025, Cercarbono reinforced its global leadership by demonstrating that methodological rigour and high-integrity standards can be driven from the Global South. The year was marked by its recognition as the leading GHG crediting programme, the issuance of its first voluntary biodiversity credits in the Colombian Amazon, and its expansion into the Asia-Pacific region through a strategic partnership with the Malaysia Forest Fund. Looking ahead to 2026, Cercarbono will continue strengthening these initiatives while advancing alignment with the highest international integrity standards.

Alex has over 20 years of experience in sustainability across the private sector and government. He served as a senior official at Colombia’s Ministry of Environment, where he led the National Circular Economy Strategy and represented the country on the OECD’s Environmental Policy Committee. A Fulbright scholar, he holds an MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of Maryland.
