The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) is a market-based scheme developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization – ICAO to reduce CO2 emissions from international flights.
17th November 2023. Cercarbono is delighted to announce that, following the endorsement of ICROA, we have now been recommended by CORSIA’s Technical Advisory Board (TAB) for conditional approval in the first phase (2024-2026 compliance cycle).
This conditional approval opens the door for Cercarbono certificates to be considered eligible under CORSIA’s scheme once the process has been completed and finally approved. In this context, eligible sectors will include energy industries (both renewable and non-renewable sources) as well as waste handling and disposal.
It is noteworthy that the process is already advancing, and final approval is contingent upon meeting various requirements mandated by CORSIA. Cercarbono is actively adapting to ensure compliance, facilitating a thorough evaluation with the aspiration of securing final approval soon.
Cercarbono expresses gratitude to CORSIA’s Technical Advisory Board (TAB) for their role in this process, contributing to the continuous improvement of the standard. This enhancement will result in better quality and integrity of mitigation programs and projects.
