According to the United Nations (UN), every minute, the equivalent of one truckload of plastic waste is dumped into our oceans. Furthermore, 400 million tons of plastic are produced annually, 79% of which end up in landfills or in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, while only 9% is recycled and 12% is incinerated, generating a global environmental crisis.
In response to this problem, Cercarbono and Global Zero Waste developed the Voluntary Circular Economy Programme (VCEP) as a financial instrument for the general recovery of products and materials along the value chain, with which Circular Plastic Credits (CPC) are traded to finance environmental services of reduction and recirculation that are part of the Materials in Circular Economy Programmes or Projects (PMEC).
In this sense, the PVEC seeks to increase and enhance material reduction and recirculation projects, promote the optimisation of materials in the biological and technological cycle and contribute to the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), among others.
Cercarbono and Basura Cero Global invite you to participate in the webinar titled «Circular plastic credits: an opportunity to move towards a circular economy» scheduled for November 15th at 9:00 a.m. (COT) – GTM-5.
